TEXAS SHEET CAKE – classic southern dessert!
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
Frosting:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract; beat until smooth.
4. Gradually add boiling water, beating until batter is smooth.
5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. While cake is baking, prepare frosting: Beat butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, beating until smooth and creamy. Stir in vanilla.
7. Frost the warm cake immediately. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
