Ingredients
- 1½ lb cooked ham, cut into bite-size cubes
- 2 lb potatoes, cut into 1–2 inch chunks
- 2 cans (14–15 oz each) green beans, drained
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt, or to taste
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, optional
This combination of ham, potatoes, green beans, onion, garlic, and broth is a classic slow-cooker preparation.
Instructions
- Prepare potatoes: Wash, peel if desired, and cut potatoes into even chunks.
- Layer: Add potatoes to the slow cooker, followed by green beans, onion, garlic, and diced ham.
- Season: Sprinkle in garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, pepper, and salt.
- Add liquid: Pour in the chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce. Add butter on top.
- Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Stir: Gently stir everything during the final 20–30 minutes.
- Taste: Adjust salt and pepper—ham and broth can already be quite salty.
- Serve: Spoon the tender potatoes, green beans, and ham into bowls with a little of the flavorful broth.

Q/S — Quick Substitutions
Q: Can I use fresh green beans?
Yes. Use about 2 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into pieces.
Q: Can I use frozen green beans?
Yes. Add them during the last 1–2 hours so they don’t become overly soft.
Q: Can I use leftover holiday ham?
Absolutely. Diced leftover ham works very well.
Q: Can I use ham hocks instead?
Yes. A ham hock can be slow-cooked with the vegetables, then the meat can be removed from the bone and stirred back in.
Q: Can I make it more brothy?
Add another 1–2 cups chicken broth for a soupier version.
