Servings
5–6 servings Time
- Prep: 15 minutes
- Cook: 5–6 hours LOW or 3–4 hours HIGH
- Total: about 5½–6¼ hours
Ingredients
Main
- 1½ lb (680 g) smoked sausage/kielbasa, sliced into ½-inch rounds
- 2 lb (900 g) baby potatoes, halved
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Sauce
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- ½ cup (120 ml) chicken broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt, or to taste
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes, optional
Honey-mustard sauces with sausage and potatoes are a common slow-cooker combination.
Method
1. Prepare the potatoes
Wash the baby potatoes well and cut larger ones in half so the pieces are similar in size.
2. Prepare the sausage
Slice the smoked sausage into rounds.
3. Make the sauce
In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, olive oil, honey, Dijon mustard, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, black pepper, salt and optional red pepper flakes.
4. Layer the slow cooker
Add potatoes and onion to the slow cooker. Place the sliced sausage on top.
5. Add the sauce
Pour the honey-garlic sauce evenly over everything. Toss gently to coat.
6. Cook
Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender.
7. Finish
Give everything a gentle stir. If you want a thicker, glossy sauce, leave the lid slightly open for the final 10–15 minutes.
8. Serve
Serve hot with fresh parsley and a green salad or steamed vegetables.
Food Safety
If using fully cooked smoked sausage, heat it thoroughly. If using raw sausage, it must be cooked to the appropriate safe internal temperature before serving. The potatoes should be completely tender.

Q&A
Q: Can I add green beans like the previous recipe?
Yes. Add about 2 cups fresh green beans during the final 2–3 hours on LOW so they don’t become overly soft.
Q: Can I use chicken sausage?
Yes. Chicken or turkey smoked sausage works well.
Q: Can I use regular potatoes?
Yes. Cut them into roughly 1-inch pieces so they cook evenly.
Q: Can I make it less sweet?
Yes. Start with 1 tablespoon honey and add more after cooking if desired.
Q: Can I prepare it the night before?
Yes. Slice the sausage and potatoes and mix the sauce ahead of time. Refrigerate everything separately, then assemble and cook the next day.
